
The Enterprise Zone is a California tax incentive program implemented to offer businesses special tax benefits in order to promote economic growth in designated areas. Businesses operating within California Enterprise Zones can receive substantial benefits that include:
- Hiring Tax Credits - The hiring tax credit allows an employer to take credits of up to $37,440 per qualified employee, over a five year period. Employees must qualify based on 1 of 13 possible vouchering criteria.
- Sales and Use Tax Credits - Sales and Use tax credit on qualified equipment purchased for the business up to 20 million.
- Business Expense Reduction - Businesses may deduct the cost of qualifying items of business equipment, furniture and fixtures (or other depreciable personal property) as a business expense in the year it is placed into service up to $20,000.
- Net Interest Deductions for Lenders - Net interest earned can be excluded on loans made to a business located solely in an Enterprise Zone.
- Net Operating Loss Carry-Over - Businesses within an Enterprise Zone can take Net Operating Loss deductions and carry them forward for up to 15 years.
